The application of financial techniques, tools and principles needed to assess the performance of projects and organisations and consider the economic viability of their ongoing success. A consideration of financial risk management and the process required to minimize such risks in different organisational settings.
The course focuses on understanding the purpose and tasks undertaken by financial managers in organisations. It provides the tools necessary to assess the potential and existing performance of projects and investments, including financial risk. It also looks at the ways organisations raise and utilise funds.
By the end of the course, you will have:1. An understanding of how the finance role fits in to organisations and markets; 2. An understanding of how to evaluate cash flows over time, in order to make informed decisions on maximising shareholder wealth;3. An understanding of financial risk, and how to manage it;4. An understanding of portfolio returns, and how to achieve them;5. Assessing interest rates and the basic model used in the valuation process of bonds;6. Determining market efficiency and common stock valuation;7. An understanding of estimating appropriate risk and return for decision making. (WACC);8. An understanding of project evaluation from a finance perspective;9. An understanding of how organisations use debt and equity to fund expansion and acquisitions;10. An understanding of effective working capital decisions.
