This course covers evidence-based concepts, tools, and techniques applicable to traditional and agile approaches to analysing and designing information systems. Topics include project selection and planning; business systems, processes, and data requirements analysis; requirements elicitation; user interface design; and prototyping. It also examines the role of systems analysts and the challenges of IS development. Students gain practical experience in modelling organisational data and processes, and in designing and prototyping IS solutions for real-world business problems.
1. Demonstrate an understanding of key concepts, frameworks, methodologies, tools, techniques, and theories that underpin the development of an information system and apply these in an organisational setting. 2. Distinguish a key issue that arises in relation to IS development and evaluate and report on current research on the issue. 3. Identify and evaluate opportunities for how IS can be used to redesign and manage business processes. 4. Analyse and model business processes, validate these models against business objectives and system requirements and represent their outcomes in a business case 5. Analyse a business need for information and develop a suitable strategy to solve the problem and recommend the requisite information solution. 6. Use various tools and techniques (e.g. MS Project/Planner, MS Visio, prototyping tools, and AIsupported tools) to support the planning, analysis and representation of IS project business solutions. 7. Reflect on their performance, interactions and experience within organisations and communities
