This course is designed to develop the evidence-based management (EBMGT) capability of students by guiding them in developing the skills and knowledge needed to acquire, appraise, and apply quality evidence in making better decisions. Students will also gain practical skills in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, along with foundational training in business research methods. These skills will support their ability to critically evaluate information from multiple sources-including scientific research, stakeholder perspectives and organisational data-and apply it effectively in managerial decision-making.

At the end of this course, you will be able to: 1. Critically reflect on the nature of knowledge and evidence, including diverse ways of knowing, and recognise the value of Indigenous perspectives—particularly te ao Māori—in informing evidence-based management practice.2. Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the principles of evidence-based management as applied to contemporary local and global organisations.3. Acquire, aggregate and appraise practitioner, scientific, organisational and stakeholder evidence.4. Construct balanced and informed arguments grounded in sound reasoning and the best available evidence.5. Apply critical thinking and questioning skills when incorporating evidence in problem identification and decision-making processes related to management.6. Analyse, interpret and synthesise empirical data using appropriate qualitative and quantitative methods.7. Develop evidence-based solutions to management problems and opportunities.
Students must attend one activity from each section.
Lectures for MBUS604 are recorded using the ECHO360 lecture recording system, however, in-person class attendance is a course expectation for the full duration of the course.
