This course provides students with an understanding of contemporary issues in financial and management accounting, and then undertake applied research on a business in New Zealand that is facing a specific issue in financial and/or management accounting. A representative of a local business will present the specific issue to the class and then the students - acting as professional consultants - will research possible solutions to the issue and present their findings to the representative. Students will be expected to apply concepts and theories in financial management to the business under study.
The learning goals will be assessed against the following course and graduate attribute criteria:1. Apply concepts and theories in financial management to problems or situations faced by organisations and investors in professional practice;2. Undertake and communicate (oral and in writing) applied research in financial management;3. Develop critical thinking competence and innovativeness in financial management and apply your knowledge and skills to a range of problems and situations faced by organisations and investors.These learning objectives improve capabilities that are sought after in rational, goal-oriented organisations, world-wide.
