The purpose of MFIN674 is to enable students to develop and apply advanced theoretical and technical skills of financial decision making. Students will be required to provide sound decisions to a range of real world financial problems and then evaluate those decisions against success criteria. Findings will be have to be presented in a way that is "client-ready" and accessible to a non-expert in financial management. Students will also achieve a Bloomberg certification as part of this course.
Besides developing and proposing solutions to a range of business case studies on problems including the cost of capital, capital budgeting, and company evaluation, students will learn how to use the Bloomberg Terminal to obtain and analyse economic and financial data and apply it to equity valuation. This includes completing the Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) certification. Furthermore, this course seeks to provide students with the statistical background and theoretical foundation to apply common machine learning (ML) approaches to problems in business and finance using SAS Viya. The SAS integrated learning modules use a series of demonstrations and practices to teach the required concepts and analytical skills. This includes fundamental statistical concepts, problem identification, data exploration, data processing, feature selection, model training and validation, and model assessment. The learning modules are part of the wider SAS Data Analytics and Machine Learning curriculum. Students will complete a corresponding SAS certification exam as part of the course.
