Description

This course takes a holistic look at leadership during times of change. It examines the key tasks of leadership and the personal skills, journeys, and qualities required to perform them.

The course takes a holistic look at leadership. It begins with an exploration of the changing global environment and its implications for leadership. It then examines the key tasks of leadership and the skills required to perform them, placing a particular emphasis on the emerging discipline of positive leadership. The course then explores the key foundations of personal leadership. The concept of “calling” is introduced as a critical foundation of leadership and Joseph Campbell’s “hero’s journey” is used as a guide to the discovery and pursuit of a personal vocational calling. The focus then shifts to the personal capacities needed to build resilience and thrive in the leadership process. Particular attention is paid to hope, optimism, positive emotion and character strengths.

This assignment is limited to 25 students who will work in five groups.

Developmental Journal Assessment:
The developmental journals are used to record responses to class exercises and questionnaires along with reflections on the developmental implications of the responses.
