Description

Special Topic (H)

The purpose of this seminar is to introduce key components of the leading academic research in this emerging field. As such, the seminar is meant to provide a thoughtful understanding of the basic ideas that have been published in the field. Your knowledge of these ideas and concepts can act as a stepping-stone for your own future research endeavours. The course is especially designed for those students who are interested in pursuing a research agenda. Therefore, the course will emphasise the identification, evaluation, and critical appraisal of multiple theoretical and methodological topics in the field.

Out of several thousand research articles published in a list of dozens of journals, a leading publisher in the UK has compiled a list of the 300 most used articles.

Papers researched by two of my former Honours students appear on this list: 39 & 43. You will also strongly be encouraged to produce meaningful research and to publish.

Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of the course, students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the scope, perspectives and methods of research;
  • Constructively read and decipher research articles in the field;
  • Critically review, discuss and present a research article;
  • Write a literature review in the journal-style on a specific topic;
  • Propose an outline of empirical research; and
  • Identify streams viable for future research.
