Students will continue the development of technical competence in, and broad operational of, theoretical knowledge within the specialised studio discipline. Projects relating to the conventions and techniques of Moving Image practice, participation in group meetings, critiques, reading groups and critical reflections, documentation of all work.
This is a semester-long course of intensive studio-based learning. The course focuses primarily on students developing technical competency through practical project work, critical reflection assignments, and broad operational and theoretical knowledge within the specialised studio discipline of Moving Image.
Students of this course will learn:A broad understanding of the methodologies and technologies that define the discipline of Moving Image.A broad understanding of the importance of in-depth study towards developing a critically engaged practice.Understand how to interpret primary information to complete project-based work and written material.How to develop practice-based projects within the context of a defined brief.A basic understanding of precedents—both historical and contemporary—for filmmakers operating within the fine arts paradigm.A basic understanding of the ethics of filmmaking representation.Any successful student of the BFA at this level will:Exhibit a broad technical and theoretical knowledge within their chosen studio discipline.Analyse and generate solutions to familiar and unfamiliar problems through producing artistic project work and written reflective writing assignments.Evidence of an ability to select and apply a range of standard and non-standard processes and procedures relevant to the chosen studio discipline.Complete self-management of learning and performance within the studio context through the independent production of project work and written assignments.Evidence of some responsibility for engaging with the class in constructive, critical discussion within the studio context.Evidence of understanding and sensitivity towards the cultural contexts in which artists make and display work within Aotearoa, New Zealand.
