This is a full academic year course of intensive studio-based learning. This course focuses on the student’s ability to individually propose, frame, develop and execute a year-long practice-led research project. The student’s area of interest, intended body of work, and proposed methodologies are framed and articulated in the form of a Directed Research Proposal (DRP). Within the DRP the student will also outline a research topic that emphasises key critical, contextual and theoretical issues that underpin their proposed studio work. This research will be thoroughly documented within the workbook and communicated through a series of formal presentations and critiques that emphasise the interrelationship of theory and practice. The practical and theoretical components of this course are driven by student participation in group meetings, technical workshops, critiques, reading groups and written critical reflection assignments. Documentation of all work undertaken for the course is to be submitted for assessment alongside realised project outcomes.
