In this course you will learn how to score and arrange for symphony orchestra. You will gain detailedknowledge of the different instruments and sections of the orchestra, their timbral possibilities, andlearn how to control balance and colour in a variety of musical textures. You will also learn abouthow to prepare a professional orchestral score, and optimize your workflow using industry-standardnotation software.

Two significant and contrasting orchestration / arranging tasks worth 50% each. One of the assignments must be a notated orchestration of a work to be decided in consultation with the course lecturers; the other can be an orchestration or an arrangement.
