Performance work involving weekly individual lessons, performance classes and ensemble training in an approved instrument (or in voice) and the presentation of a public recital.
The course aims to develop technical skills, musical knowledge and understanding in an instrument or voice, through regular lessons, practice and rehearsal culminating in performances and an end-of-semester assessment. It also develops knowledge of the repertoire for the specific instrument or voice, as well as build concert performance repertoire for each student. Public performance is strongly encouraged so that students begin to develop strengths in this area: to this end, students enrolled in this course are required to attend a weekly combined performance workshop (Wednesday 5–6:30pm) and are also expected to be available for at least four of the Friday lunchtime (1:10-2pm) concerts held in the Arts Centre Recital Room to perform and/or support (by listening to) their community of fellow students, performance staff and selected guests. This is the last course in a sequence of performance courses: at this stage, the student is expected to demonstrate a high level of performance to an external audience.

The teacher’s grade will consider such things as: an assessment of punctuality and reliability in attending lessons, consistency of practice and learning through the year, technical mastery gained through the semester, breadth of engagement with the repertoire, participation in the Friday lunchtime performances, as well participation in the Performance Workshop (Wednesday 5:00-6:30), and any Performance Class specific to their instrument (if in addition).The performance will be a public recital of approximately 40 minutes’ duration consisting of solo and/or small ensemble works. Performance skill and demeanour will contribute to the examination marks, as will the programme notes provided by the student, and these programme notes must be provided by the student to the UC Arts (City Location) Administrator, Mikaela O’Neill, at least two weeks prior to the performance.PLEASE NOTE 1.
