Ethics Today
Every day we face, or are affected by, ethical issues arising from the internet, punishment, globalisation, government, and our everyday interactions with others. Is the death penalty justified? Is it ever okay to gossip or lie? Should you donate money to help starving people on the other side of the world? Should all drugs be decriminalised? Is your fitbit going to betray you? These are just a few of the questions we will discuss in this course. We will consider both what our ethical obligations to others are, and what obligations governments and companies have to us.This course is organised into five main topics:· The Internet· Interpersonal Dilemmas· Crime and Punishment· Global Obligations· Autonomy and PaternalismThis course offers you an opportunity to think about real world problems and the questions they raise.
Please note the lectures will be recordings of the campus lectures.
