This course introduces students to the essential principles and practices of project management, with a focus on applying recognised methodologies and frameworks across a range of project environments. Students will explore the project lifecycle from initiation through to closing, learning to define and manage scope, develop schedules, estimate and control costs, and mitigate risks. Emphasis is placed on effective stakeholder engagement, communication planning, and building high-performing project teams. A distinctive feature of the course is the integration of Te Tiriti o Waitangi into project management practices, enabling students to develop skills in forming genuine partnerships and applying Te Tiriti-responsive approaches in diverse project contexts. Students will also gain hands-on experience with tools such as the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Gantt charts, risk registers, and earned value management. By the end of the course, learners will be equipped with a comprehensive toolkit to lead or contribute to the delivery of successful projects in Aotearoa New Zealand and beyond.
