Description

This course provides students with a holistic introduction to the core processes and principles of digital product design, from research and ideation, experiment-led prototyping, UX and UI design, through to testing, validation and customer feedback. Students will gain familiarity with the challenges faced by digital product teams in balancing user needs with technology and business constraints, and gain practical experience in solving product problems through design. Students will learn the basics of low-fidelity and high-fidelity prototyping using Figma and Web Platform technologies including CSS and JavaScript, in order to iteratively develop and test their designs for web, desktop, and mobile contexts.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
1. Identify and explain the different stages of the human-centered design process and the
vocabulary of UX design and how these concepts relate to the lifecycle of digital products.
2. Critically reflect on the different roles, practices and uses of technology in digital product
development.
3. Be able to apply the principles of mental models and information architecture to run basic
facilitated workshops, testing and feedback sessions with peers.
4. Design schematics and diagrams that represent the user journeys and task flows supported by
a product.
5. Design and develop prototypes for user interfaces that enable completion of tasks and meet
user needs within a product.
6. Give and receive constructive criticism and feedback from presenting and sharing their work
with instructors and peers.
