This course develops communication skills to facilitate engagement and change or growth. Students will learn the relational and technical aspects of Motivational Interviewing (MI), with a focus on ethically and culturally responsive and Te Tiriti o Waitangi-informed practice. Teaching draws on Maori and Pacific knowledge and ways of engagement and emphasises working in collaboration to empower others to draw on their own strengths to move towards change or growth that aligns with their values and aspirations. Students will engage in reflective practice to deepen their understanding of MI, support safe and effective MI conversations, and foster continued learning and development.
