Description

The focus of this course is to provide the competencies outlined as required by the Board, and to provide an opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge and skills in organisational psychology. This will be done through a number of workshops/seminars, noho marae, and course assessments. The workshops will focus on theory and application in the identified core areas of psychology. One class meeting will be held on a marae and will focus on cultural competencies that you can then build on and apply to the specific topic areas in the course, and to your interactions with clients and organisations.

Welcome to Advanced Topics in Organisational Psychology Part 1

As the topics in this course are related to aspects relating to people at work and in organisations, you are expected to draw on your own experiences, prior to joining the programme and from your internship, and it is important that you are prepared to relate these events to theories and research during class meetings and in your assignments. The course relies on the exchange of information between all of us in the class, so your experiences are important!

Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of the programme, graduates will be able to:

1. Critically use scientific evidence and appropriate research methods to inform and guide the practice of organisational psychology.

2. Apply theoretical and empirical professional knowledge to the selection of assessment intervention and communication methods, and the analysis of data.

3. Apply te Tiriti principles to their practice.

4. Identify and respond to differing cultural requirements in approaches to assessment, intervention, consultation and other areas of psychological practice (this includes knowing when to seek cultural advice).

5. Engage in appropriate professional, legal and ethical practice.

6. Reflect on own competencies and understand how you address gaps in your own knowledge, and how to plan your own professional development
