The purpose of the course is to support students in their first professional experience as public health workers, enabling them to apply their academic learning to a work setting. The course encourages self-reflection and the opportunity to put community engagement skills into practice. This course requires students to contribute 250 hours towards an industry based internship where they will apply their skills and knowledge to solve real world public health problems. The university will provide academic oversight and technical support. Throughout the course, students will: - Spend a designated period working on a project for a health agency. - Critically apply academic knowledge of their discipline to practice demonstrating insight into the health issue and capturing this understanding through the development of a practice portfolio. - Critically reflect on their personal skills and development as a health practitioner during the internship. - Effectively disseminate project outcomes with stakeholders. Students will be assessed on the project outcomes and achievement of learning outcomes. Students may work individually or in groups, but each student will be assessed individually on their communication, contribution, and capability.
Students must have completed at least 120pts of coursework towards MPH. Subject to approval of Associate Dean - Academic.
