Description

This course engages students with exciting and innovative coaching and teaching approaches that are learner-centred, inquiry-based and growing in popularity across the PE & Sport sector. Through a blend of theory and practical application students will gain a working knowledge of the philosophical and pedagogical developments underpinning these approaches. This is enhanced through student engagement with current research as they critically reflect upon their own teaching and coaching experiences.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Articulate a sound comprehension of a Learner-Centred Approach and the aims and principles underpinning it.
2. Identify and discuss the assumptions of learning that underpin the learner-centred approach in teaching and coaching contexts as described in this course.
3. Compare and contrast different skill acquisition models and their underpinning theoretical assumptions.
4. Plan and Implement a games-based and/or a constraints-led learning session and employ self-reflective tools to evaluate your experiences as both an educator and learner during the practical class sessions.
5. Critically reflect on the role that sport & PE plays in upholding te Tiriti o Waitangi  in educational settings.
