This course provides students with a multidisciplinary perspective and appreciation of contemporary issues in weight management. Applied weight management strategies and techniques fundamental to strength and conditioning will be developed. The coursework is designed to assist students in gaining proficiency supporting and working with weight management clientele.
Learning in SPCO242 will contribute towards gaining the knowledge required for mastery of the NSCA’s Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) accreditation. This course benefits athletes, personal trainers and coaches who wish to grow their knowledge and practical skills around exercise and nutritional prescription to support their own training or that of their coached athletes.
1. Develop an intermediate level of knowledge, understanding and pedagogical skills necessary to enhance food choices and physical activity levels.2. Understand adherence issues, barriers to success and associated behaviours of individuals undertaking performance, weight and health management programmes. 3. Develop critical thinking skills around health inequities and the determinants of health that influence people’s food choices and physical activity levels.4. Critically evaluate multidisciplinary weight management and health education approaches using scientific research evidence5. Apply contemporary research to current nutrition and physical activity education and promotion practices.
Any 60 points at 100 level from any subject, orany 15 points at 100 level from SPCO.
