Description

This course develops students' capability to learn in, through and about the sport & exercise sciences and translate this knowledge into quality learning experiences. Students will consider theories of learning and consider their relevance in creating quality learning experiences within Health & Physical Education in the New Zealand Curriculum. There is a strong focus on critical analysis and application of knowledge.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, successful students will be able to:      
1. Identify assumptions and paradigms of sport and exercise science.
2. Describe considerations for children and youth when planning for sport and exercise science lessons.
3. Connect PE learning theories and instructional models to sport and exercise science topics.
4. Create and deliver PE lesson plans based on sports and exercise science topics.
5. Critically reflect on the implementation of a sport or exercise science lesson.

Whakaaroaro | Consider 07 Jun 2024 30% Test a lesson plan that demonstrates a critical synthesis of sport and exercise science, sociological concepts, bicultural localised curriculum, and an HPE Key area of Learning with an appropriate group. Using transformative learning theory, reflect on the process.
