This course challenges students to critically assess various contemporary nutritional and recovery techniques and delve into the research to determine their effectiveness. Students will look at the multidisciplinary relationship between the sports nutritionist and the strength and conditioning coach. Additionally, students will gain an appreciation of when it is appropriate to recommend a particular supplement / recovery intervention.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:1. Critique central and peripheral models of fatigue in relation to various types of performance. 2. Explain proposed mechanisms underlying recovery techniques.3. Interpret research on effectiveness of nutritional interventions on performance. 4. Understand the role of a Strength and Conditioning Coach in advising athletes on recovery interventions and nutritional practices.5. Design a nutritional / recovery intervention pilot study.
