Description

In this course, students will explore the human body’s structure and functions, and how systems interact and adapt to exercise.

Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology enables students to learn about the structure and function of the human body through weekly lectures, and lab and tutorial experiences. This very practical course will equip students to understand the basic structure and functions of organ systems of particular interest to human movement for sport and exercise participation, including

- Bones, muscles and joints
- Nervous system
- Cardiovascular system
- Respiratory system

Learning is supported through teaching sessions recorded through ECHO360, online video conferencing, worksheets, weekly online quizzes, and drop-in and email support from the course lecturer. The course text provides a rich online environment with videos, adaptive quizzes (questions get harder or easier based on your performance), learning activities and plentiful other multimedia support.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Identify the levels of organisation in the body
2. Describe the structure and function of cells
3. Explain the concept of homeostasis and the function of homeostatic control mechanisms
4. Describe planes, joint & muscle actions using anatomical terminology in human movement contexts
5. Describe the structure and function of the cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, endocrine,  muscular, and skeletal systems
