Description

This course equips students to analyse skilled performance in both a team and individual setting using a range of software, equipment and methodologies. Successful students will be able to analyse technique, tactical, movements and decision making abilities. The importance of designing effective key performance indicators and producing opposition analysis and scouting reports will be introduced and discussed. Modern techniques will be taught including leading performance analysis software. Students will get an opportunity to test and become more proficient in effective communication methods.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, successful students will be able to:
1. Understand and critically evaluate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in the sporting individual and team context.  Present findings using KPIs based on tactical and effectiveness assessments on sporting events.
2. Comprehend and perform intermediate features of HUDL SportsCode software and Excel using technique and tactical analysis (including labelling, organiser presentation tool and scripting) using Macs.
3. Capture and process qualitative and quantitative information live including coding and understanding best practices, workflows and equipment utilised by performance analysts;
4. Critically self-reflect on processes used in the course including engagement with real-world sport performance analysis contexts.
5. Critically analyse effective communication techniques including creative and innovative methods and processes used in presentations to a team or individual in the sporting context during the preparation and post-game phases.
6. Understand where analytics/big data fits in with performance analysis and how to process results and reports.
7. Understand and critically reflect on regional, national and global best practices and content used in sport performance analysis contexts.
