Description

This course explores Indigenous perspectives in Sport for Development (SFD), focusing on Maori communities and global Indigenous contexts. It develops critical thinking skills to evaluate and contribute to Aotearoa New Zealand’s SFD sector and wider sports ecosystem. Through three four-week modules, students compare mainstream SFD programmes with those created by, with, and for Maori or other Indigenous peoples. Key topics include kaupapa Maori theory, decolonising research methods, Indigenous research principles, and Maori leadership in SFD. Learning combines lectures with interactive workshops and is aimed at MBA students planning careers in the sports sector working with Indigenous communities and knowledge systems.
