This course provides an introduction to teaching literacy and mathematics from year 0 to 8. There is a specific emphasis on teaching beginning literacy and number in mathematics. The course builds students own pedagogical content knowledge and the use of evidence-based pedagogical approaches in the classroom.
On the successful completion students will be able to:1. Explain how to be responsive to the needs of all learners to achieve literacy and mathematics success2. Describe a number of evidence-based approaches to teaching that support the learning of a diverse range of learners.3. Identify the relationships between pedagogical content knowledge and how children learn mathematics and learn to be literate.4. Demonstrate an understanding of the developmental progressions of literacy and mathematics, and the implications for assessment and supporting development
