This course is designed to deliver through practical application and first-hand experience in classrooms, the necessary curriculum and pedagogical content required of primary teachers. These experiences enable the student, his/her lecturers and associate teacher to systematically evaluate his/her developing knowledge and skill, identify emergent needs, and to record the student's progress in achieving course learning outcomes.
*Please note this course is only available to initial teacher education students. To enrol in this course you need to be accepted and enrolled in one of our Initial Teacher Education programmes.
On the successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:1. Professional Learning - uses reflective strategies to identify and refine own teaching practices, including the use of te reo me ngā tikanga Māori 2. Learning Environment – selects, explains and applies strategies for developing contextually appropriate professional relationships with ākonga, whānau and colleagues3. Managing Learning - selects, explains and applies a range of key teaching practices that support relationships and learning for all ākonga4. Designing Learning– explains and applies a ‘framework for learning’ approach to support ākonga learning in a variety of learning areas including English and Mathematics5.
