This course introduces a foundational understanding of some of the theories pivotal to the nature and purpose of education. It explores how education influences how one sees the world and shapes how one interacts with that world. Students engage with theory through examples and reflections on their own personal experiences of learning. It identifies and explains specific concepts and perceptions relevant to these theories. This course builds towards reflections on how theories influence students’ personal beliefs, attitudes, and values and how these may be challenged in a tertiary education environment in Aotearoa New Zealand.
