The main objective of this course is to familiarise the students with the content domain of Motivation in organisations. A historic overview of the main Motivation theories is provided and integrated with contemporary research. These theories are also discussed in relation to their application to current organisational challenges, such as ensuring worker engagement, sense of purpose, and identity at work in both traditional and emerging ways of organising.
Demonstrate sound knowledge of seminal workplace motivation theories and be able to explain how psychological mechanisms and individual differences influence motivation at work.Critically evaluate the quality of and biases in published workplace motivation research, attending to multiple interpretive lenses and perspectives.Demonstrate an understanding of the applications and limitations of workplace motivation research to organisational practice.Integrate and apply knowledge of workplace motivation research to practical situations while considering its limitations and applications to the future of work.
