The general principles of metabolism and metabolic control.
This course aims to communicate the fundamental principles governing the energy generating pathways within the cell. The major emphasis will be on carbohydrate metabolism and the mitochondrial electron transport chain. Unlike BCHM221, which introduced you to biomolecules, their properties and functions in cells and took a closer look at enzymes, this course will build on BCHM 221’s introduction and will focus on biochemical systems (usually enzyme catalysed) and the functioning of their individual components.
