Description

An introduction to marine biology and the marine environment. Description of marine communities and the biodiversity, ecology and behaviour of marine organisms.

This course is an introduction to Marine Biology and the marine environment. It will include descriptions of marine communities and the biodiversity, biology and behaviour of marine invertebrates. Where appropriate, New Zealand examples will be used to illustrate topics.

An integral part of the course is a compulsory three and a half day field course at the UC Marine Lab, Kaikoura. The provisional dates for the field trips are 9-12 April, 12-15 April and 15-18 April (if enrolments exceed 45).

Notes

In BIOL212, a student must normally pass the course as a whole (>50%) and reach a satisfactory (45%) level in the essay, practical report and the final exam.
