This course uses marine examples to build on the skills you have learnt in third year subjects including ecology, physiology and behaviour. The course includes a wide range of current marine topics. It will include critical evaluations of the literature, experimental approaches, practical field and some laboratory work. Some parts of the course provide an opportunity to integrate theory and management. Students will be expected to prepare work for each seminar.Recommended preparatory course(s): BIOL 270 or BIOL 250
As a student in this course, I will develop the ability to:An ability to access and critically evaluate scientific literature relating to individual topics An ability to design and undertake a group field project Detailed understanding of the factors affecting marine habitats under stress Gain experience in field sampling of soft sediments Develop skills in the verbal and written presentation of scientific literature Be able to evaluate experimental designs for statistical analyses Develop skills in scientific analysis and report writing Integrate your own background knowledge with advanced theories to assess and manage current marine issues.
