To help prepare students to perform in a professionally and culturally appropriate manner in Computer Science and Information Technology Roles in an Aotearoa-New Zealand context.
1. Demonstrate bicultural competence and confidence skills and knowledge appropriate for computer science and IT professionals in Aotearoa New Zealand [WA6, WA10]2. Apply ethical principles and codes of ethics to scenarios experienced by computer science and IT professionals in Aotearoa New Zealand reflecting its place in the Pacific Region and the rest of the world [WA8, WA10]3. Apply Treaty partnership principles and the experiences of Māori to current and emerging issues facing computer science and IT professionals in Aotearoa New Zealand [WA6, WA7, WA10]4. Analyse issues facing computer science and IT professionals relating to data privacy, data sovereignty, Māori data sovereignty and emerging technologies [WA8, WA10]
This course will provide students with an opportunity to develop the Graduate Attributes specified below:
Employable, innovative and enterprising
Students will develop key skills and attributes sought by employers that can be used in a range of applications.
Biculturally competent and confident
Students will be aware of and understand the nature of biculturalism in Aotearoa New Zealand, and its relevance to their area of study and/or their degree.
Globally aware
Students will comprehend the influence of global conditions on their discipline and will be competent in engaging with global and multi-cultural contexts.
SCIE101 and 45 points at 200 level of above from COSC and/or INFO courses. Alternatively, permission from the Head of Department should be sought.
