Description

This course will concentrate on ways in which resilience, health and positive developmental trajectories may be promoted in infants, children and adolescents. Current research and theoretical models will be used to explore a number of critical issues related to health and wellbeing in a New Zealand context.

Learning Outcomes

1. Students will compare sources of information on current issues and relate to key concepts of health and wellbeing in childhood and adolescence.
2. Students will compare and contrast sources of information on wellbeing, health and development.
3. Students will apply the core concepts of well-being and health that impact on developmental trajectories.

Prerequisites

18 points in EDUC or PSYC106 or permission of the Head of School.

2.  Course readings will be kept relatively short, and will be directly related to material discussed in class. This is not a reading intensive class.
3. Course readings will be drawn from a range of scholarly publications and will be emailed to students at their UC student email one week in advance of the class meeting in which the topic is considered.
4.  Some course readings are drawn from the textbooks listed below used in EDUC102 Child and Adolescent Development Foundation Courses (also EDUC 121) and also available from the UC Library.  These will be notified with the weekly reading assignments.  You may also find these textbooks have useful information related to the Wellbeing Project. The textbooks are shown in APA style referencing.
