This course looks at the nature, prevalence and causes of common childhood disorders and disabilities.
Disorders of childhood create special needs for infant and child development. The course content will include readings, lectures, videos and activities contributing to understanding and critical analysis of psychological and educational aspects of disorders arising during childhood The course will cover foundational processes in the development of children with disorders and discussions of specific types of disorders, including: impairments in vision, hearing speech and language; intellectual disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders, disorders of learning and attention, motor disorders, internalising disorders (e.g. depression, anxiety) and externalising disorders (e.g. conduct disorders).
