Grades will be based on assessment of:
Internal assessment is 50% in total (30% on Colleen Fry's material, 10% on Peter Gostomski's material and 10% on Chris Williamson's material.
Final exam is 50%

No extensions are permitted for individuals except on certifiable medical or compassionate grounds.

Course Content

Project Management (23 Lectures)
The main area covered is that of microeconomics as applied to industrial operations, including capital and operating cost estimation and investment appraisal with tax and depreciation effects. Financial calculations and time-value of money. If time allows, a Strategic Management section may include selected topics in long-term (strategic) planning, marketing, organizational behaviour and management structures. Time management and teamwork skills will also be covered.

Design (7 Lectures)
The concept of plant-wide process control will be covered.  In addition the details of the reading and preparation of P&ID diagrams will be introduced.

Hazard and Risk Identification (8 Lectures)
Preliminary hazard analysis (PHA) and hazard and operability study (hazop) will be introduced as techniques to identify hazards in the process industry.

Two lectures on use of Endnote and library databases (preparation for research projects).

Relation to Other Courses
There are no pre-requisited.  ENCH497 is a compulsory course and is a pre-requisite to ENCH494.
