Description

Systems concepts and the context of engineering decisions. Engineering ethics. Mangement of people, projects and organisations in the construction industry.

Learning Outcomes

This course aims to improve students’ skills in managing complex systems. Successful students will:

(a) understand the essential elements of a system, the modelling of systems and how systems thinking adds value
(b) be able to evaluate system quality and how sustainability relates to engineering
(c) appreciate ethical responsibilities of professionals particularly with regard to health and safety
(d) gain a deeper knowledge of the processes required for managing infrastructure projects through their life cycle including contract administration and human resource management
(e) develop an ability to make informed business decisions regarding the operation of a construction company
