This course covers advanced topics on discrete linear and nonlinear models of structures, and matrix structural analysis techniques for simulating deformations and internal forces induced in structures under the action of static and dynamic loads. The course develops students' knowledge and skills in analysis methods used by technical experts and researchers, and provides foundational knowledge in Finite Element Analysis and Nonlinear Structural Analysis.

• To pass the course, students must score at least 40% in both the mid-semester test and the final exam. Students who score between 30-40% in either the test or the exam may be considered for a pass grade if the average of their test and exam scores is 50% or above.• Students may work in pairs on the assignments and submit one solution, for which both students will receive the same score.• All assignments must be submitted in the drop box designated for the course.• All students are given a total allowance of two late days for the entire course, which they may use for the submission of assignments. The Matlab-based structural analysis software Mastan2 will be used throughout this course. It can be downloaded for free from http://www.mastan2.com/. We recommend downloading Version 1 of the software that works in conjunction with a pre-installed copy of Matlab.
