This course provides an introduction to the fundamental nature of civil engineering materials, including: composition, physical properties, the relationship between microstructure characteristics and macrostructure performance, their manufacture and utilisation.Teaching and Learning ApproachThis course will provide students with the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of engineering materials through a combination of; lectures, where concepts are introduced; tutorials for application of concepts through various problems and exercises; and finally a laboratory to demonstrate the performance of real materials.
