Compulsory workshop course for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering and Mechatronic Engineering students.
This course is a one-day introduction to Printed Circuit Board (PCB) assembly and soldering electronic components.Activities include:• Basic through-hole soldering• Basic surface mount soldering• Board assembly according to BOM• Identifying frequently used components• Clean, tin and exchange tips• Removal of components using soldering braid• Flux removal with an IPA based solution• Inspections and board handling• Crimping connectors on cable endsAdditional topics covered:• Health and safety• Cored wire alloys and fluxes• Electrostatic precautions
At the conclusion of this course you should be able to:LO1: Perform basic soldering and wiring of PCBs and components (WA3, WA5)LO2: Identify electronic components used in PCBs (WA5)LO3: Work safely with soldering and electronic equipment, including awareness of electrostatic discharge (WA5, WA6)LO4: Appreciate the time, skill and attention required for the fabrication of a simple electronic system (WA6)LO5: Interpret bill of materials and schematics (WA5)
