An advanced course on methods for digitally processing signals. Practical methods of designing digital signal filters, especially those with finite impulse response, including implementation on devices with finite precision. Transforming signals with applications in 1D and 2D. Statistical processing of signals. Methods for multirate processing of signals.
Topics include:• A thorough appraisal of aliasing, including bandpass sampling.• Practical methods of designing digital filters, especially those with finite impulse response.• Implementation of filters on devices with finite precision. • Multirate signal processing: the manipulation of sampling rates and filters for faster DSP. • Two-dimensional spectra and the 2D Fourier transform. • Applications of the 2D Fourier transform to image processing. • Statistical processing of signals.
At the end of this course, the student will:Understand sampling and aliasing in both the signal and frequency domainsBe able to design FIR filters using various methodsUnderstand the effects of finite precision on digital filtersBe able to apply multirate methods for efficient DSPUnderstand two-dimensional spectra and the 2D Fourier transformBe able to apply the 2D Fourier transform to problems in image processingUnderstand and apply the 1D wavelet transformUnderstand and apply statistical methods to signal processing
This course will provide students with an opportunity to develop the Graduate Attributes specified below:
