Description

This workshop training course will give students a basic experience of workshop processes. This course is for Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering students.

The purpose of Workshop Training is to give students a basic experience and appreciation of workshop processes. In particular to provide:

- Experience of basic workshop processes (drilling, turning, milling, welding, hand tools).
- Develop an appreciation of the capabilities (limitations) of these processes.
- Develop an awareness of workshop health and safety (H&S), and to develop professional engineering attitudes towards H&S generally.

    1. General principles of health and safety,
    2. Safe work practices in a machine workshop,
    3. Familiarisation with lathe, mill, drill press, and MMAW (stick) welding

Timetable Note

In order to provide enough workshops for the number of enrolled students, workshop training is held in two different ways.  Students can allocate themselves to whichever option suits their timetable and other study, work and sporting commitments.  The two options are, either:
a) morning, afternoon or evening workshops, for 3 hours, that are on one day of the week for a full semester.  These are the same as labs and tutorials for other courses and are available in both semester 1 and semester 2; or
b) week-long workshops that are in the mid term and semester breaks.  You attend on all five days of the week from 8.30am - 4.30pm.
