At the completion of this course, all students will be able to:Explain the value of integration in engineering designBe able to work on ‘complex’ (as defined by IPENZ) engineering problems and appreciate their uniqueness Scope a project in terms of client wishes and the key engineering issues involvedDetermine the resource management issues and constraints on a projectDescribe conceptual issues and constraints associated with site suitability and construction optionsPrepare an estimate of cost for a civil engineering project, including a Monte Carlo analysis of uncertaintyPrepare engineering drawings of sufficient detail for cost estimates and funding decisionsPrepare a professional report for a clientPrepare a poster for a client of the main aspects of a design

In addition to an adequate overall achievement on assessments, students must achieve at least 40% for the combined project reports, and 40% for the combined test and examination, to pass the course.Note: additional marks (0.5%) will be awarded to students who win design challenges during the course.
