This course provides students with the necessary critical language and contextual insight to reflect on their studio based programme and its place in the broader fine arts world. During this course, students will be taken to a range of highly regarded art, design and multi-media studios, art galleries and cultural institutions to provide ‘real world’ models of how the visual arts are discussed, contextualised, and disseminated. Alongside this, a lecture and tutorial series will seek to develop a deeper understanding of key critical issues and histories in contemporary visual culture. These lectures/tutorials will be coordinated around the studio majors, so that direct parallels, examples, texts and discussions can be applied both in relation to, and back into, the specific fine art studio programmes.
Subject to approval of the Head of School. Entry to this course is limited.
