Description

The theoretical principles of investments and their applications to investment policy.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students should be able to:

Develop and discuss a detailed investment policy statement that recommends a particular asset allocation strategy for a client.
Understand major investment media and quantify and evaluate their risks and returns.
Build and manage a portfolio of securities.
Quantify financial risk.
Devise strategies to effectively transfer risk through diversification, insurance or hedging.
Understand the theoretical basis for and practical implementation of widely-used asset pricing theories.
Discuss what the efficient market theory and behavioural finance about investor rationality and asset pricing is.

In order to pass this course, you must obtain:

(i)  An average grade of 45% or better on the final exam; AND
