This course is for those who have little or no previous knowledge of the French language. It provides students with a knowledge of basic grammatical structures and vocabulary, and an understanding of some everyday French social customs and non-verbal communication.
As a student in this course you will develop skills in all four areas of the French language (reading, writing, speaking and listening), at a beginner's level. You will acquire sufficient grasp of structures and vocabulary to proceed to FREN 122.
FREN104, FREN112, FREN121, FREN122, FREN123, FREN124, FREN127, FREN201, FREN301
Besides the four hours per week already scheduled for each student, there will be two hours of tutorials, at times yet to be arranged. You will have some input into that. Last year we formally scheduled two hours of language laboratory. Those are replaced this year by online exercises which you are to do in your own flexi-time, on your own computers - or in the language lab if you wish. This online work is an important part of learning and assessment.
