This is the fifth course in a sequence of six French language acquisition courses.
Through an introduction to French culture and civilisation, FREN321 promotes conversational skills and helps students develop the ability to write and comprehend somewhat complex texts (written or audio) on a broad range of topics. An extensive grammar review is included.The course is taught in French. Topics included are: the regional identity of Brittany, the environment, youth culture and social networks, and two films: Etre et avoir and Le Hérisson.This course can be credited towards a Diploma in French Language.
At the end of this course students will have developed: the ability to understand a wide range of sentence structures; a firm understanding of advanced level prose; an understanding of sociolinguistic registers; familiarity with journalistic prose, formal and informal use of language; the ability to compose prose using a variety of sentence structures, idiomatic expressions and link words; an enhanced intercultural understanding of French and francophone civilisation; have acquired skills associated with the level B2 of the Common European Frame of Reference for the French language.
