This course explores earth-surface and near-surface processes using perspectives from the sub-disciplines of geomorphology, hydrology and climatology. Fieldwork, including a 3-day trip to the Canterbury high country, is an integral part of the teaching/learning programme for the course. Overall learning outcomes are discipline-oriented, and include a development of an appreciation of central and unifying principles and process linkages in the three sub-disciplines. Learning outcomes for the fieldtrip include an appreciation of the techniques available for problem solving in physical geography, and of various challenges and issues involved in the application of classroom concepts in a field context.
