This course explores how health and well-being are shaped by our natural, built and social environments, in complex and sometimes unexpected ways. We will draw on a range of research to examine the connections between well-being, community and place.
Our focus in GEOG401 is developing your understanding of the relationship between health, well-being and the environment. In line with the well-known WHO definition, we understand health as being about more than the absence of disease, but as a positive state that encompasses physical, psychological, social and cultural well-being. We understand the concept of ‘environment’ in a similarly expansive manner, as including the built, natural, economic, social and cultural dimensions of places.
Entry subject to approval of the Head of Department.
