Description

This is the first of two intermediate German language courses. This course aims at extending vocabulary and grammatical structures which will be used to discuss and write about simple topics in contemporary German and German-speaking culture and society.

This course will work on all four language skill areas: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will complete regular grammar and writing assignments as well as have ample opportunity to speak and listen in the classroom setting. Throughout we will emphasize building vocabulary and communication skills which will be used to discuss German contemporary culture and current events. Students will practice reading skills by reading a short fictional text (youth literature).

By the end of the course the average student will be able to understand short conversations on topics of everyday life and use essential vocabulary and structures in order to speak about various aspects of their own life.

The course meets four times a week. Three of the hours are devoted primarily to work with the textbook. Wednesday class meetings are sometimes held in the Language Lab.

This course leads on to the second semester course GRMN252 Intermediate German Language B.
