This is the first of two advanced German language courses. The course aims at improving the students' all-round knowledge of contemporary German.
This course is designed for advanced students of the German language. The objective of the course is to enable students to understand the main ideas of a wide range of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics and to express themselves fluently. Written communication should result in well-structured texts on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, stylistic variety and accuracy in expression. In oral communication a spontaneous, flexible use of the language should be demonstrated for social, academic and professional purposes. Aspects of German history and culture are integrated into the teaching of the language. The course language is German.Lecture hours2 hours video conferencing and 2 hours tutorial. Note that the teaching methods in the course consist of blended learning of interactive learning in groups and partner work during the video conferencing and tutorial classes and a significant part of online assignments and activities.ExpectationsStudents in this language course are expected to attend the two hours video conference and the two one-hour tutorials regularly and complete the written and online homework assignments.
Enhancement in all four areas of the language (reading, writing, speaking and listening).Written skills: ability to write in a fairly complex sentence structure.Oral skills: Ability to engage in a conversation on a specified range of topics with moderate fluency.By learning a foreign language students will develop more understanding of global conditions and will become competent in engaging with global and multi-cultural contexts. This will help the language students to develop knowledge and attributes sought by employers that can be used in a range of applications.
